Polyhydroxyalkanoates production from syngas fermentation effluents: Effect of nitrogen availability
نویسندگان
چکیده
Syngas fermentation is a promising technology for bioalcohols production even though some produced volatile fatty acids (VFA) may remain unconsumed in the effluent. The present research explored of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) from remaining VFA syngas effluents fed-batch bioreactors so that and biopolymers could be obtained combined way. In order to perform these PHA accumulation tests, two different effluents, composed mainly mixture alcohols, were used as substrate. Those characterized by nitrogen availabilities, one being N-rich other N-limited. A mixed microbial culture (MMC) with maximum storage ability 53.6% was inoculum. microorganisms MMC consumed rather than allowing latter accumulate end product, besides PHA. However, when effluent substrate, consumption rate alcohols 20 times higher (0.040 Cmmol-Alcohol Cmmol-X-1 h-1) compared N-limited (0.002 h-1). Despite not observing large differences amount accumulated (40.5 – 41.5%), there decrease content after reaching its peak This trend observed effluent, which exactly matched experiment.

Isolation of Polyhydroxyalkanoates from Fermentation Broth
1. ABSTRACT Polyhydroxyalkanoates are excellent polymeric materials for production of environmentally degradable packaging devices and have potential applicability in medical uses. Aim of this project was the isolation of PHA from fermentation broth. Two general approaches for isolation of biopolymers from fermentation broth have been determined and compared. The first possibility is a multista...
متن کاملCarbon roadmap from syngas to polyhydroxyalkanoates in Rhodospirillum rubrum.
The gasification of organic waste materials to synthesis gas (syngas), followed by microbial fermentation, provides a significant resource for generating bioproducts such as polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). The anaerobic photosynthetic bacterium, Rhodospirillum rubrum, is an organism particularly attractive for the bioconversion of syngas into PHAs. In this study, a quantitative physiological analy...
متن کاملCommercial Biomass Syngas Fermentation
The use of gas fermentation for the production of low carbon biofuels such as ethanol or butanol from lignocellulosic biomass is an area currently undergoing intensive research and development, with the first commercial units expected to commence operation in the near future. In this process, biomass is first converted into carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H2)-rich synthesis gas (syngas) via ...
متن کاملPolyhydroxyalkanoates production from waste biomass
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) is a group of biopolymers that are extensively researched for such purpose due to the biocompatibility with mammal tissue and similar properties with conventional plastic. However, commercialization of PHA is impended by its high total production cost, which half of it are from the cost of pure carbon source feedstock. Thus, cheap and sustainable feedstocks are pref...
متن کاملValuable product production from wood mill effluents.
Fibreboard production is one of the most important industrial activities in Galicia (Spain). Great amounts of wastewater are generated, with properties depending on the type of wood, treatment process, final product and water reusing, among others. These effluents are characterized by a high chemical oxygen demand (COD), low pH and nutrients limitation. Aerobic and anaerobic processes have been...
